Who is at higher risk for aggressive EAC infections?

The risk of aggressive external auditory canal (EAC) infections is significantly heightened in patients with diabetes or compromised immune systems. This is because these individuals often have underlying health issues that can impair their immune response, making it more difficult for their bodies to fight off infections. In the case of diabetes, for instance, factors such as high blood sugar levels can lead to an environment that promotes infection and slows down healing processes. Compromised immune systems, whether due to chronic diseases, medications, or congenital conditions, further diminish the body’s ability to combat pathogens, leading to a greater susceptibility to infections, including those in the EAC.
